GraphixCALC Software began in 2003 as a means for the owners of a Pacific Northwest sign shop, GraphiXtreme Signs & Designs (later renamed to GraphiXtreme Sign Company), to provide a consistent means of pricing signs. Due to both the relatively small amount of commercially available applications and in some cases the high cost of some applications, we sought to develop a cost-effective in-house solution. Having good skills with applications such as Microsoft Excel and Access, we first developed Excel spreadsheets suitable for our own use. Shortly after doing so, it became apparent that due to the lack of readily available solutions in the marketplace, others in the industry struggled with the same sign pricing dilemmas. And so, we gave away several copies of the spreadsheets to fellow sign-makers. After receiving an enormous amount of great feedback and suggestions, we then turned to developing the solution into a simple yet effective tool that could be sold inexpensively. After much more work, we launched SignCalc in late 2003.
After selling numerous copies of the Excel spreadsheet, we continued to refine the pricing strategies used and added new features along the way. We renamed SignCalc to GraphixCALC in late 2005 after determining that another similar product of the same name was already in existence.
Additionally, 2005 saw the first release of a completely new version of GraphixCALC by recreating it in Microsoft Access. This allowed for a significant leap in features, use and overall professionalism of the product. GraphixCALC Pro 1.0 was released in December 2005 and continued through early 2008.
In early 2008, we decided to take the product to the next level and hired out significant portions of the programming to a professional programming firm. It took a year of production to produce GraphixCALC Pro 2.0 and was finally released on April 22, 2009. This version is the culmination of years of experience in the sign industry and is now a mature and refined sign pricing software.
Since then, we have continued to improve on the product by incorporating customer feedback back into it and working to make it an effective yet affordable solution for sign shops all across the US and Canada (with an eye on international applications). We will continue to listen to our customers and improve on a product that was started by sign-makers and continues to be shaped by the very industry it serves.
